Local History: A Robert Todd Tribute

A free five-hour screening marathon celebrating his life and work!

Saturday, May 25, 2019, 6-11 pm

At the Echo Park Film Center, 1200 N. Alvarado St., Los Angeles CA 90026

The world lost one of its great poets of the moving image in August of 2018.  Robert Todd was a dedicated and tireless educator, artist, and engaged community member, both locally in his home of Boston and globally with his international film family.  For so many of us, his peerlessly delicate and exquisitely beautiful cinematography, combined with intuitive, lyrical editing, represented the expressions of an absolute master in the form of personal, poetic filmmaking.  Rob poured his empathy and soul into everything he made, guided by a total commitment to the communicative power of film to share, unite, and move.  And for the many who knew him, his support, engagement, and brilliantly absurd sense of humor made him such a pleasure to know.  He is deeply missed.

As one of contemporary experimental filmmaking’s most prolific artists, one regular program would barely represent even a tiny fraction of his prodigious output.  So instead, we’ll be celebrating his life and work with a slightly bigger fraction in the form of a five-hour marathon screening!  Many very special thanks to Tessa Day and Deb Todd Wheeler for supporting this event! (Mark Toscano)

Films to be announced at the screening.  Most to be screened from 16mm prints.
